As the Edison State Community College softball team wrapped up their season, the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference named six players recipients of postseason awards for the 2025 season.
The OCCAC named Marissa Pine, of DeGraff, Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. It also included Pine on the All-OCCAC Team. The freshman maintained a .545 batting average with one HR and 14 RBI in conference play. The National Junior College Athletic Association named Pine to the NJCAA Region XII Division II Softball All-Region Team.
"Marissa had a standout freshman season as a major contributor in the circle and at the plate," said Head Softball Coach Miranda Huddle. "She set the school records for season and career strikeouts, as well as season and career ERA in just 101.2 innings of work. Marissa showcased her talent offensively as well, finishing second on the team with a 0.435 batting average."
Sophomore Ashlyn Chatterton joined Pine on the All-OCCAC Team and was awarded the Golden Glove. Chatterton, from Franklin, maintained a .526 batting average with 14 RBI in conference play. The NJCAA also included Chatterton on the NJCAA Region XII Division II Softball All-Region Team.
"Ashlyn made huge contributions to this team, taking responsibility for most of the catching duties and only allowing four passed balls in 148.1 innings of work behind the plate," Huddle said. "She provided an extremely consistent bat in the lineup, finishing third on the team with a 0.418 batting average."
Joining Chatterton and Pine on the All-OCCAC Team are Kaycie Albers, Zoey Hodge, Emma Kamerer, and Jaycee Taylor.
Albers, a sophomore infielder from Minster, maintained a .409 batting average with 12 RBI and two SBs in conference action.
"Kaycie held down third-base duties for most of the season, cutting down any attempt of our opponents playing small ball. She was a consistent bat in the lineup and extremely smart and aggressive on the base paths," said Huddle.
The OCCAC named Hodge to the All-OCCAC Team as pitcher. The Union freshman maintained a 2.10 ERA and threw 32 Ks in conference play.
"Zoey made a big impact this season in the circle, fielding her position tremendously and also breaking the season and career ERA records," Huddle said. "Zoey provided a lot of power in the offensive lineup and finished fourth on the team with a 0.400 batting average."
Kamerer, a freshman outfielder from Columbus, maintained a .386 batting average with one HR and nine RBI in conference action. She joins Chatterton and Pine on the NJCAA Region XII Division II Softball All-Region Team.
"Emma stepped up on defense to play wherever the team needed her, whether it was at first base or in the outfield," said Huddle. "Emma was extremely versatile on offense, laying down sac bunts, hitting line drive gap shots, and putting a few out as well. Emma finished second on the team with 42 hits and tied at the top with 40 RBI."
Taylor, a sophomore infielder from Hamilton, maintained a .357 batting average with 13 RBI and one SB in conference play.
Huddle said, "Jaycee contributed to the defense at shortstop all season long, leading the team with 53 assists and five double plays. Jaycee held down the leadoff spot in the lineup for the majority of the season and led the team in runs scored with 51."
Additionally, the OCCAC named Huddle Coach of the Year, who finished her third season leading the Lady Chargers.
"Being named OCCAC Coach of the Year is a distinguished honor that reflects not only Coach Huddle's exceptional leadership and strategic excellence on the field, but also her unwavering commitment to the development of our student-athletes," said Edison State Athletics Director Justin McCulla. "Coach Huddle's dedication to the game of softball and to the success of her team has rightfully earned her this well-deserved recognition."
The Lady Chargers finished their season 24-10 overall and 10-2 in the OCCAC with two postseason appearances in the NJCAA Region XII District A tournament in Marysville, Michigan.
