The Edison State men's basketball team competed at home Wednesday night against a top ranked Owens Community College falling short only by 6 points 85-79.
The Chargers trailed by just a point at the intermission 45-44. But at the end of a fiercely fought contest, two glaring statistics stand out above the rest. The chargers had 16 turnovers compared to just 8 from their opponent and missed 12 free throws while Owens made all but 3 of theirs.
"I am extremely proud of how hard our young men are playing, but taking care of the ball and hitting free throws are crucial in winning big games," said Head Coach, Rick Hickman. "I am confident that we will get better at both."
The Chargers are now 14-11 on the season. Dae'Shawn Jackson (Springfield HS) led all scoring with 32 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists on the evening. Zach Ledbetter (Vandalia Butler HS) scored 19 points hitting 3 of 5 from behind the arc. Christopher Landrum, II (Troy Christian HS) added 13 points. Nick Thompson (Miami Valley Saints) contributed 10 boards.
The Chargers will be at home Saturday for their second matchup with Hocking College at 3:00 p.m.
