Charger Men Begin Season With Victory
Edison State Men’s Basketball team opened the 2016-17 season with a 74-49 victory over University of Cincinnati–Clermont.
Last Evening the Edison State Men's Basketball team opened the 2016-17 season with a 74-49 victory over University of Cincinnati–Clermont.
The chargers were forced to place a small line-up on the floor due to recent injuries to 6'9" Dusty Poteet and 6'8" Chad Bergman. The small line-up presented an up-tempo game which proved to be key to defeating the much bigger UC–Clermont. The Chargers led only by 5 at the half 35-30. Chargers Head Coach Rick Hickman was especially pleased with his team's defensive performance as the Chargers held their opponent to 49 points and allowing only 19 in the second half.
Dae'Shawn Jackson of Springfield High School led the night in scoring with 17 points and also recorded 11 rebounds. "This was definitely a team effort," said coach Hickman. DeAnthony Griffin added 14 points, Zach Ledbetter earned 10 points, Chris Landrum and Nick Thompson with 8 points each and A.J. Hickman with 7 points to round out the chargers top 6 scorers.
Edison State will host Cedarville University (JV) at home on this coming Friday, November 4 at 7:30 pm.
