Keith Olmo, of Coral Glades, Fla., has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at the University of South Carolina Beaufort following his successful career at Edison State Community College.
"We could not be happier for Keith," said head baseball coach Scott Jones. "He has overcome much adversity being from another country and a language barrier."
In his time at Edison State, Olmo had a .470 batting average with 38 RBIs and a .837 fielding percentage. "Keith has been outstanding on the field for us the past two seasons," added Jones. "He plays an excellent middle infield and has good hands. He can do a lot of things with the bat because he is an accomplished player."
Olmo will be the fourth player in the last two seasons to advance his baseball career beyond the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
"I'm really excited to continue my college baseball career," said Olmo. "Playing college baseball was always a dream of mine and at Edison State, I had the opportunity to make it a reality."
"Playing at Edison State has been an unbelievable experience. Coach Jones and Coach Young not only helped me become a better player but also a better person by teaching things that I'll use both on and off the field."
"He will be missed here," added Coach Jones. "We wish Keith the best as he continues his education and baseball career."
While attending the University of South Carolina Beaufort, Olmo will continue working toward bachelor's degree.
