Recently finishing out their season with a tournament appearance, two Edison State Community College volleyball players have been named recipients of post-season awards from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) for the 2018 season.
Freshman Whitney Pleiman (Russia HS/Russia, OH) was named to the OCCAC All-Freshman Team, All-OCCAC First Team, and Libero of the Year. Pleiman, a Defensive Specialist/Libero for the Chargers, led the conference with 800 digs for the season.
Sophomore Noel Ufferman (Fairbanks HS/Marysville, OH) earned All-OCCAC Honorable Mention. Ufferman, a setter for the Chargers, was third in the league with 819 assists and 355 digs during the 2018 season. The post-season award is the third in Ufferman's career as a Charger. In 2017, she also received All-OCCAC Honorable Mention and was named to the OCCAC All-Freshman Team.
"I am incredibly proud of both Noel and Whitney, they are both outstanding young women, and have worked extremely hard to get to where they are at," said Head Coach Julia Haupricht.
"Whitney is one of the best defensive players I've ever had the pleasure of coaching, I am very excited to have her back next year."
"Noel has done an outstanding job setting for Edison State the last two years, and was able to accumulate 1473 assist in just two seasons, which is a very difficult thing to do. Noel will definitely be missed next season."
The pair also received Player of the Week honors during the 2018 season.
The women's volleyball team finished 24-9 overall.
