Edison State Community College's Julia Haupricht will return next season as head volleyball coach. The announcement was made following the conclusion of the 2016 season.
The 2017 season will mark the beginning of Haupricht's career as head coach but third season with the Chargers. Formerly serving under Shelby Pitsenbarger as the assistant coach, Haupricht brings numerous years of experience as a coach and player to Edison State's volleyball program.
"I am prepared to take the next step in my coaching career," said Haupricht. "I am excited to have the chance to pass along the experience and knowledge my former coaches gave to me. Coaching volleyball at the collegiate level has been my dream, and I'm excited to the opportunity to fulfill that dream."
Before joining the coaching staff at Edison State, Haupricht had a successful career on the court. In 2006, Haupricht was part of her high school's Division II State Champion team. Since then, she has competed internationally with Premier Volleyball Academy; played for Owens Community College where she holds the record for tenth overall career kills; and received numerous accolades while playing for Siena Heights University.
The former athlete will hold the Edison State volleyball team to her same high standards. "I have very high hopes for next season," added Haupricht. "I hope to win the conference, regionals, and to have the chance to compete for a national championship."
With recruiting efforts underway, Haupricht is looking forward to the season ahead. "Recruitment is going extremely well so far, which makes me even more excited for next season to start."
"This year's freshman class is an outstanding group of young women," added Haupricht. "They are such a talented group, and they excel not only on the court but in the classroom as well. They are very coachable and willing to learn."
"I am also excited to have such a strong sophomore class return for next year. I think that they will continue to prove to be great players and will have no problem leading the team."
"I wish them all the best in the upcoming season and encourage them to continue to work toward their goals."
"We're excited to have Julia advance to head volleyball coach at Edison State," said Nate Cole, Director of Athletics and Student Life. "She is familiar with the team and knows the competition. We're looking forward to her leading the program this upcoming season."
