Edison State Grabs Lead In Seventh Inning For Win
Edison State Community College snatched the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio on Thursday.
Edison State Community College snatched the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio on Thursday. The game was tied at two with Edison State batting in the top of the seventh when Tori Smith singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Smith struck out seven, while Elysha Stapleton sat down six.
Edison State got on the board in the first inning. Lexi Romine singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, University of Northwestern Ohio tied things up at two when Melcher singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Smith was the winning pitcher for Edison State. She lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven.
Stapleton took the loss for the University of Northwestern Ohio. She surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six.
Edison State saw the ball well, racking up seven hits in the game. Smith and Lexie Long each racked up multiple hits, collecting two hits to lead the Chargers. Edison State was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Knocking in the winning single along with a good pitching performance was Tori Smith. Mackenzie Smith made the most plays with nine.
The University of Northwestern Ohio totaled five hits. Adams and Meyer each collected multiple hits for the University of Northwestern Ohio.
