The Edison State Community College softball team traveled to Heidelberg College on Saturday, September 23rd for a pair of games to kick-off their fall pre-season schedule.
The Lady Chargers represented themselves and the college well, splitting the two games. After losing the first game to Mount St. Joseph 8-4, the Lady Chargers bounced back to beat Heidelberg 5-3.
"Considering this was the first time we've been on the field together, practice or game, I thought it went pretty well," said Edison State head coach, Dan Cain. "We outhit both of our opponents. We walked a few more batters than I would have liked, but our pitchers all had a good day. We made a few mistakes in the field and on the bases that cost us some runs. We will correct those mistakes as we start getting to know each other a little better. It was nice to get every player on the field and at least one at-bat."
This weekend, the Lady Chargers will travel to Ohio State University on Saturday, then to Defiance College on Sunday.
"We're going to learn a lot about ourselves this weekend, we will play three games in Columbus versus Mount Vernon Nazarene, Otterbein, followed by Oberlin. Sunday we'll play another three games in Defiance. We'll be playing a lot of softball in just two days."
