Bio

Coach Hickman has 30 years of head coaching experience and a combined 410 wins collectively at the collegiate and high school levels. He enters his 3rd season as the men’s head basketball coach at Edison State. After two consecutive winning seasons and a very successful 2017-18 campaign going 18-13, Coach Hickman hopes the Chargers will take the next step in conference and tournament play.

“The success of our 2018-19 season will, in many ways, depend on how quickly our freshmen adjust to college life both in the classroom and on the floor," said Hickman. "With only four returning players this season, the adjustment of young players is crucial.

“We are very excited about our 2018 class and feel that with our strong returners we will be in a very good position to compete for a conference title. We will not be an extremely big team, but we feel that we have the potential to play a very fast paced game this year.”

“Our early observations have us feeling really good about a group of young men who will get beyond themselves and play well as a team. As always,  I’m excited to have with me on the bench two very talented assistant coaches, Mark Eustache, and Kyle Vanover.”

Hickman began his coaching career at Graceland College in Indiana where he spent three seasons leading the men’s basketball team to a 53-28 winning record, Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Co-Championship, and a final four appearance in the NSCAA National Championship. During his time at Graceland College, Hickman also received the coveted Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award.

Hickman spent a combined total of 17 years as head basketball coach at Troy Christian High School, Miami East High School, Bethel High School, and Parkway High School where he was instrumental in leading players to District Championships, Regional Runner-Up honors, Conference Championships, and earning OHSAA Top Ten State ranking three times. Overall, he held a 201-187 winning record in the OHSAA.

Outside of coaching, Hickman is an intervention teacher for grades 9-12 at Parkway High School in Rockford, Ohio.
