Chargers Lose Nail-Biter at Lorain
The Charger men take a three-point loss to #7 nationally ranked Lorain County Community College.
Edison State traveled to Lorain County Community College Saturday afternoon to take on the Commodores whose veteran team is sporting a 20-4 record and a number 7 national ranking.
After a back and forth first-half, the Chargers relinquished a 42-31 lead to the Commodores at intermission and trailed by as much as 21 points early in the second period. This in part was due to the Commodores 54% shooting display from the field. But in the final 12 minutes of play, the Chargers dug down and found the team that has characterized their play most of this year. And with 3:16 remaining the Chargers had pulled to within one point trailing 72-71. In the final seconds, it was a Commodore 30-footer who was fouled and converted a 4 point play that proved to be the difference down the stretch.
"We were all obviously disappointed in the final result, but I am proud of the fight and heart that our Chargers displayed today. Their character did not go unnoticed," commented Coach Hickman.
Hadith Tiggs (Wayne HS) led all scorers with 21 points, Darryl Robinson (Bowsher HS) and Romello Yaqub (Troy HS) had 15 each while Jacob Rogan (Bellefontaine HS) added 13 for the evening. Robinson also added 13 boards giving him his first double-double.
Edison State moves to 15-8 on the year. The Chargers return to action next Wednesday as they travel to Owen Community College at 7:30 p.m.
