The Edison State Men's basketball team fell short on the road Saturday afternoon to Sinclair Community College 81-76.
The Chargers took a narrow lead early in the contest but relinquished it to the Tartans midway through the first half and trailed by three 37-34.
"I was very proud of our defensive effort in the first period today. But during the second half we definitely missed Dusty to match up inside," commented coach Hickman, referring to 6'9" Dusty Poteet who took a season-ending elbow in last Wednesday's contest.
The Tartans were able to use their inside game just well enough to establish a 12 point lead midway through the second half.
"I knew our guys would battle back at the end. That's just the character of who they are" said Coach Hickman.
And that's just what the Chargers did, pulling the score as close as 3 points in the final minute of play. Unfortunately, Edison State was struggling from the free throw stripe missing on 12 attempts while their opponent connected on 16 of 24 from the same spot. The Chargers are now 11-8 on the season.
Hadith Tiggs (Wayne HS) had 23 points and 9 rebounds. Dae'Shawn Jackson (Springfield HS) scored 21 points and snatched 12 boards giving the Chargers a double-double for the night. Christopher Landrum, II (Troy Christian HS) provided the Chargers with 13 points.
The Chargers will host Lorain Community College at home on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:30 p.m.
