The 2018 Edison State Charger baseball team will be looking to improve on the 2017 season, which featured the program's first bid to the OCCAC subregional tournament.
On the mound, the Chargers will be returning a majority of the pitching staff that led the conference in strikeouts and K's/9. Returning starters will include Marcus Johnson, Jackson Hobbs, Tanner Lee, and Nick Gray as well as relievers Garrett Lee, Elijah Bennett, and Will Wells.
"We are fortunate to have this many guys with game experience on the staff," said Edison State Head Coach Scott Jones. "Last season, we were a little green on the mound but feel we have a strong recruiting class and are looking to some of these guys to really contribute on the hill."
Freshmen Ryan Profitt, Hunt Doepel, Dylan Welch, and Evan Ford all had competitive fall seasons as well as transfer Dillon Watkins.
On the field, Edison State will have some new faces after graduating the entire starting infield. Top returning position players Brandt Cronebach (.369), Dustin Parsons (.379), Alex Murphy, Drake Carman, Tavian Baniel, and Jose Adorno will be looked upon to anchor an inexperienced lineup.
"We have a good group coming in," added Coach Jones. "This year's class of position players that we have signed has been our strongest yet. We have addressed our issues with depth and speed."
Newcomers Travis Smith, Dylan Arnold, Cameron Davis, Austin McLain, Will Ludington, Jake Clements, Chase Schoeff, Gustavo Bonilla, Edward Alexander, Tanner Keyes, Cooper Denney, Leamsi Bermundez, Henry Barwick, and Jake Whisman will all be looking to contribute.
The Chargers open the 2018 season Friday, March 2nd as they host Ivy Tech Community College Northeast for two games beginning at 3 p.m. Conference play starts Friday, March 23rd with the Chargers hosting Mercyhurst North East beginning at 1 p.m.
"As usual, our conference games will be our toughest games of the regular season."
"We are fortunate to play in the OCCAC a league that usually has a couple of nationally ranked baseball programs nationally. This makes for a high level of play and anytime we can play that type of schedule it will ultimately make our program better. We are excited to start the season and are looking to improve on 2017."
