The Edison State Community College Athletic Department held its second annual Athletics Day on July 28 at the Piqua campus to kick-off the upcoming volleyball, basketball and baseball seasons.
Student-athletes, coaches, and staff were on campus to complete paperwork, have photos taken, and participate in initial team meetings.
Edison State Athletic Director Nate Cole has made strides since taking the helm of the athletics program in 2014. From gaining an outstanding coaching staff and making facility improvements to advancing level of play, Cole has made plenty of impact during his short time on staff.
"When I started here my goal was to turn Edison State athletics into a premier program," said Nate Cole. "The program has already seen many positive changes and the quality of student-athletes we've attracted as a result is phenomenal."
"Not only do our athletes perform well on the court, but they're also doing great in the classroom. Last year, we had several students named to the OCCAC All-Academic team because of good grades," added Cole. "We had outstanding student-athletes last year, and I'm certain this year's group will be just as good."
So far this year, 85 student-athletes have committed to Edison State. "I can't say enough about the level of commitment demonstrated by our coaching staff. They have done an excellent job of recruiting student-athletes."
The volleyball team will kick off the year in athletics playing their season opener on the road against the University of Cincinnati–Clermont on Friday, August 26 at 1 p.m. Their first home game of the season will be on Wednesday, September 7 at 6 p.m. against Hocking College.
Edison State's baseball, basketball and volleyball teams compete in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and are Division II members of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
